GETTING HERE BY ROAD

(from the Channel Tunnel/Calais)

NOTES

  1. The French motorway system is part pay and part free. It will cost you approximately €35 to travel from Calais to Souillac (17 miles from the house), all of the journey on motorways.
  2. French route directions tend to give the name of the major town at the end of the motorway. Therefore a general awareness of French geography and its motorway system is helpful!

THE ROUTE

  • From Calais take A26 direction PARIS.
  • Continue until A1 intersection. Take A1 direction PARIS.
  • Shortly after Charles de Gaulle Airport, north of Paris, take A3 direction BORDEAUX.
  • Take a series of motorways, A3/A86/A6, around the east of Paris. Simply follow direction BORDEAUX and NANTES.
  • You emerge to the south of Paris on the A10.
  • Continue on A10 following direction BORDEAUX and ORLEANS.
  • At Orleans take A71 direction ORLEANS, VIERZON, BOURGES, LIMOGES, CLERMONT- FERRAND.
  • At Vierzon (50 miles from Orleans) take A20 direction TOULOUSE, CHATEAUROUX, LIMOGES.
  • Leave A20 at exit 55 direction SOUILLAC. Travel 1½ miles to Souillac on D703.
  • Turn left at roundabout on N20 direction TOULOUSE, CAHORS, SARLAT.
  • Travel for about ½ mile on N20 (main street of Soulliac) to a set of traffic lights. Turn right on to D703 direction CARLUX, SARLAT.
  • Follow D703 for several miles, passing through or near to, several small villages including Carlux, until you see a left-hand turning direction Carsac / Ailliac. (this is still the D703)
  • Follow this road, through the village of Aillac, until it joins the D704. At this junction (opposite a Citroen garage) turn left in the direction of Grolejac.
  • You will pass a chateau on your left (set back behind neatly cut hedges) and then a football pitch on your right (again set back from the road)
  • Soon after the football pitch, take a small turning on your left, which has a signpost saying PEYCIBEAU.
  • Follow this narrow lane, round a left bend, then 2 right bends, then another left bend and then you will see the black wrought-iron gates to the property on your left.
  • Follow the drive up to the house and enjoy your first glimpse of the Peycibeau estate!
